Tim is one of those crazy Operator victim-kids, and as such Mark's made it his business to look out for his well-being. But if Tim's putting on a brave front, Mark's been fooled by it--he seems so upbeat and normal most of the time, rather than depressed over the Wonderland events or the Operator or any of it. It reads as a strength, says that Tim can take care of himself. Of course Mark doesn't want to see Tim hurt, but he doesn't worry constantly, either. He'd ask Tim for help just as easily as he'd offer it.
This might also have something to do with the whole nine-year-old thing over Christmas--Tim played with him, and didn't tease him about it afterwards (not nastily), and it colors Mark's perceptions a little.

Their current thread might represent a shift--he hasn't seen Tim so shaken before. He didn't get the significance of the asylum clothes when he was nine, and during the actual asylum event Tim was stoned out of his mind, so it hasn't occurred to Mark that the split identity thing might be taking more of a toll than he sees.

Tim is thrilled that Mark is around. It's like having someone who's mature and helpful and isn't judging him all the time. Oh and Mark leaves his room.

This current thread is probably going to reveal a lot more about Tim's insecurities than Tim really wants. But, he can't hide it forever. Even though he's pretty cheerful most of the time, sometimes.. especially now when he's injured, it just really, really gets to him.

He will gladly tie-dye more stuff with you.

Mark will probably offer to take care of Tim in this thread, by the by.
He'll feel bad when he realizes that he was hiding outside when he CLEARLY should have been looking out for people during the horrible dangerous candy rave. He just wants you kids to be safe. =(
