EWay Kingdom Hearts fanfic
Leo-mod said the OOC comm could be used for EWay fanfics and fanart, so I thought I'd put this up here. :D It's a "what if?" based on the hearts event that took place awhile back.
Title: Matters of the Heart
Characters: Primarily Lexaeus and Zexion; mentions of some other Organization XIII members (Kingdom Hearts)
Warnings: Yaoi undertones (Lex/Zex)
Blurb: Lexaeus ponders over his relationship with Zexion when he disappears from the mansion.
... I can't think of anything else to add. Enjoy!
Blank slate.
They had made some rather significant milestones together in the mansion. Although they had lacked hearts, they had preferred each other’s company and been adversely affected by some of the mansion’s changes.
He had almost been … content, for lack of a better word.
And then Kingdom Hearts had disappeared from the sky, absorbed by the mansion.
He looked down at the small box in his hands, rubbing the felt bow that held it shut.
The hearts were fading now. Some of the residents that had curiously opened their own, weeks after receiving them, had noted that the euphoria the boxes gave did not last a full day anymore. He had almost opened his box then, wondering why he rejected everything the Organization had worked for.
Zexion had approached him several times about it. Words between them had always been few at best, but now there was hesitance and confusion that colored the younger man’s tone. Silence had always been his best defense, and it had begun to repel Zexion.
He was sure that was the reason he was alone in the end—he had pushed away Zexion by rejecting the mansion’s gift.
But Zexion no longer remembered that.
No, the former apprentice had disappeared from the mansion one night in the last three weeks. No one was sure how long ago he had disappeared, as no one knew where to look, but Xemnas had declared him missing from the mansion a week after he had last been seen. Luxord had wearily said that the mansion’s game was getting old (while he worried the entire time), Xigbar had taken Demyx to scour through the mansion with Demyx’s ever-present kid clan (with Roxas dragging a reluctant Axel along), and the others had briefly brooded on the Cloaked Schemer’s disappearance before returning to their everyday existences. Saix had expressed cynicism over the idea of Zexion returning with the heart the mansion had given him.
Vexen had had to intervene when Xigbar attempted to strangle the Luna Diviner, when Zexion reappeared.
The Zexion that arrived in the mansion held some phantom grudge against Axel and Riku’s replica, though that was set aside when Zexion matter-of-factly stated he had no heart to care about his perceived death. He had asked him if there was daikon to pickle and tea leaves to steep, and he had no qualms with humoring the others with his presence.
They had moments again, this way. Intelligent conversation that turned into reflections of Radiant Garden, jigsaw puzzles that distracted them longer than was necessary, and comfortable silence that had defined their relationship through Radiant Garden and Oblivion.
But he noticed the way that Zexion’s eyes would linger on Xigbar and Demyx, yelling and hollering as they surfed on the beach beyond; the way Zexion would go quiet when Xaldin loudly chided Axel over a misaimed fireball; the way Zexion maneuvered his way to a swift defeat when Luxord’s poker faces began to dissolve with mirth.
Although he had found some sort of peace without his heart, the Cloaked Schemer still yearned. And the knowledge that the others of the Organization had hearts bothered him incessantly.
He stopped in front of the younger Nobody’s door, taking one hand away from the box to knock firmly. He once again settled his gaze on the small felt bow, wondering if he would lose Zexion as he had before.
As the door opened, he vowed that the small matters of the heart would not keep him from making Zexion happy.
