[PLAYER PLOT] Let's go for a dreamwalk!

Hey Wonderland! Have you ever wanted kittens for fists? To summon beautiful men? Or perhaps you've longed to explore the halls of your own memories, or even the memories of others?

Me-ow.

Thanks to mod permission you'll be able to do all of these things and more thanks to Ford and his mad science! That's right, the nerds strike again.*

*- Since this is not a regular game event, you can absolutely OPT OUT of this! It's just for people who want to participate.

THE PLOT:

  • WHAT & WHEN: On Wednesday September 6th there will be an explosion from Ford's lab. From that time forward, anyone who falls asleep or is unconscious will find themselves in their own Mindscape. They will be able to navigate through it and even out of it if they so desire--and into other people's minds.

A MINGLE LOG will go up on WEDNESDAY. The event's duration is until Friday. Y'all are welcome to post closed/open logs outside of it if you want to though.

FORD'S NETWORK POST will gu up on FRIDAY when it becomes properly evident what happened and why. He's going to feel pretty bad about all this.

  • WHERE: The explosion will be on the third floor. It'll be pretty loud, but no one's going to be hurt. As far as the extent of the magical effects--those will be mansion-wide, but feel free to opt out! This is a player plot and is therefore entirely optional.

  • WHY: Why did this happen? Ford has been trying to alter a ward against Bill Cipher that can be placed around a parameter of a place (basically like a ring of salt against demons in Supernatural), with the intention of creating an amulet to stop Bill from messing with people whose bodies and souls are more susceptible to possession (namely, Monsters from the Underground).

  • HOW: How's this going to go down? The ward uses magic, one of the key ingredients being unicorn hair. Ford is a physicist and accustomed to dealing with magic and science buuut unfortunately, tampering with magic-science that can potentially alter reality enough to shield eldritch abominations probably
isn't a good idea. He had good intentions at least.

OOC DETAILS: (Spoilers for Gravity Falls ahead!)

  • THE MINDSCAPE: The Mindscape, for those unfamiliar with Gravity Falls, is a poorly-defined other-realm where minds exist and apparently dream demons, like Bill Cipher. As noted in the Gravity Falls Wikia, the Mindscape "is first seen in 'Dreamscaperers', when Bill Cipher enters Stan's mindscape to get the combination to his vault for Gideon Gleeful. Dipper, Mabel and Soos enter to go defeat Bill and stop him from stealing the code to Stan's safe. Stan's mindscape contains all of his memories, hopes and fears." (source) In that episode, the kids and Soos used an incantation that allowed their consciousnesses to enter Grunkle Stan's mind. During this plot, you won't need an incantation. It'll just happen when your character falls asleep, or is otherwise unconscious.

(Here is an episode synopsis of Dreamscaperers.)

  • WHAT HAPPENS: Your character falls asleep, or maybe their mind drifts into an unconscious state. Whatever the case, they'll find themselves in their own Mindscape. They can explore, and they can also leave. For the most part, the implications seem to be that the general ~mindscape~ is a dull monochrome of one's surroundings (so, the mansion in this case). People's actual minds can be black and white like Stanley's or nebulous and abstract like Stanford's. It can literally be whatever you think your character's mind would look like!

Maybe your character wanders around a dull black and white version of their room, and when they try a door, it leads into halls of their memories, hopes and fears. Or maybe that's the first place they land. It's all up to you, the player, what their experience is like. It will start out feeling like a dream to everyone but whether you choose to have your character realize something's afoot... or not, is up to you.

  • WHAT YOU CAN DO: As Stan says in that episode (though I'm paraphrasing), you can do anything in the mind (there are also implications that Stan is in fact a lucid dreamer, but I'll let Koji tell you guys all about that if she wants). Basically if your character focuses enough, they can summon kittens for fists, talking British dogs, or they can change the entire "reality" at will. You can change your appearance and voice, you can be 12 again (or finally an adult)--whatever you want, if you think it, you can do it.

Naturally, anyone who manages some lucidity will have more control over what happens than those who are dreaming along for the ride.

  • ... & WHAT YOU CAN'T: While you can enter and interact with your own, or another person's memories, you cannot change them. It's like stepping into a pond. There are ripples, but eventually the water will be still again. The character whose mind you're in will be able to sense this, may even have brief 'dreams' of you interacting with their memories, but the memories themselves will not change.

Additionally I think this goes without saying but PLEASE communicate with anyone you thread with. No one likes a powergamer. Please don't forget to mark threads with potentially sensitive content in the headers! <3

LASTLY... I hope you guys have fun! :D If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

I actually work all day today so I'll get to answering things this evening, 7pm central time.

Feel free to ask questions and put up plotting comments below! :D

Re: QUESTIONS

So I definitely want Legion to participate in this, but also they have exactly 1,183 (relatively simple, but capable of autonomy due to their upgrades) minds.

Like, they'd definitely share the same mindscape, because that's kind of what the Geth do, but I'm not sure how it would effect things otherwise. Would Legion be able to split themselves into their smaller and less intelligent component minds?

TIM + FRISK

[personal profile] postictal 2017-09-04 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
BOY HOWDY GUESS WHO'S MCFUCKING PUMPED FOR THIS EVENT god thank you so much Elizabeth
TIM WRIGHT has a mindscape modeled after the place where he spent most of his childhood: his hospital room. It will assume the general look and feel of the images in the post linked - largely burned and blackened, with obvious fire damage and pieces of the building outright falling apart. His memories and thoughts will be behind each door in the long, burnt-out hallways. You can expect most of the content of said memories to be...disturbing, to say in the least, in addition to repressed as all hell. Examples of what you might find include: childhood memories (mostly relating to the treatment and abandonment he dealt with in the hospital, as well as a mess of "hallucinations" that weren't hallucinations at all), hallucinations (which largely pertain to appearances of the creature known as The Operator), college memories (involving the time in his life he was happiest, and most likely to involve appearances of his friend Brian Thomas), LIES (mostly relating to secrets he kept over the course of the series), and failures (people who still evoke strong associations of guilt - prominently involving Jay, Brian, Alex, and countless others).

The subject matter in Tim's head is liable to get pretty heavy, so feel free to steer clear if that's not your bag! If you want your character to encounter his mental picture of the Operator, I want to forewarn you that the Operator is generally memetic by nature: it spreads to people like a virus and doesn't easily go away. If you want to encounter it in Tim's head but don't want to deal with the potential "symptoms" of its influence, we can absolutely go that route too! If you do want to play with those symptoms, though...hit me up :)

FRISK possesses a mindscape a bit more abstract. Every person who enters it will wake upon a bed of golden flowers. As they travel along the dark purple hallway that leads to the archway that exits from that starting point, they'll essentially be able to witness any number of the multiple timelines Frisk initiated and endured. In some, they are placid and patient with every encounter, even gentle. In others, they are businesslike but still merciful. In still others, they murder everything in their path without remorse. Sometimes they're fickle with certain lives and yet spare others. Sometimes they go out of their way to ensure every creature in the Underground perishes. Sometimes they only begin their rampage after certain points. People can witness the highlights or lowlights of any timeline they choose. The only thing that's off-limits in terms of the game is the end of the No Mercy route, after Sans has been defeated, as they haven't witnessed what comes after Sans's battle directly.

If anyone wants closed starters or specific prompts, please let me know! I am all the fuck over this event.

STAN

[personal profile] charlastan 2017-09-04 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
He's getting his own comment because hahaha boy do I have thoughts on this episode.

Like Elizabeth mentioned, Stan's mindscape is entirely black and white, and anyone who wanders into his mind will find themselves outside the Mystery Shack. There's a lot of broken and dilapidated things, most noticeably a swing set (though, it seems someone made an attempt to fix it recently. Both of the seats are in tact now, but it still looks like it will fall apart at any moment.

Inside, the shack is a mess of MC Escher-esque stairs and doors. Immediately visible from the entrance are a locked door labeled HOPES with a shining light behind it and a rattling crate chained up and labeled FEARS. The many doors lead to different memories, and while they do appear to be organized by halls, Stan seems to be able to pick and choose what people see when they open their doors. He is a very good lucid dreamer and can manipulate his mindscape so that people only see what he's comfortable with them seeing. He uses little Stan-themed bats and crabs to spy on intruders while he relaxes inside his own memories.

However, while Stan is very good at manipulating the content of the mindscape, he's limited to the content of his previous memories (so for example, when he tries to use a memory to tell Dipper he's proud of him and explain his reasons for his behavior, it requires that Dipper stay and hear the whole thing and not leave after hearing some negative-sounding things) and he can only split his focus in so many directions. He slips in the episode, since there they split up into groups to look around. In other words, the more people are in his mindscape, the harder it will be for Stan to hide things from people.

But anyway he's been there, done that, and didn't even get a t-shirt out of the deal, so he'll be pretty aware that something's up and that people are in his head when they shouldn't be. Go ahead and try some doors! Maybe you're get stan feeding his tummy crackers or rollerskating in short shorts!

Toriel

[personal profile] didntknowbest 2017-09-04 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Toriel has lived a very long life, with lots of little memories to peek in on. Her mindscape is a small little cul-de-sac area of the relatively small cottage she grew up in on the surface, outside and in the sunshine. That's where you start, with her early life.

See her as a punk little kid picking fights and burning things for kicks- or as a teen, going into a bar and flirting with boys and girls. or a year or two later, see her having a panic attack when she realizes the boy she flirted with turned out to be the freaking prince of all monsters and he just agreed to go on a date with her. See her spending time with her family and her many siblings- and then see her watch them all get killed by humans in the war!

After that, that small little area, the dreamscape segues into what seems like an endless hallway, filled with the memories of centuries and centuries underground. Stepping in to make sure work gets done so that they can survive, start establishing a new society underground- that takes up the first few years. Then, it's just... dull repetition, really, for the next several hundred years. The same things, the same patterns, maintaining what they've built.

After a few doors, you can pretty guess exactly whats going to be behind the next few thousand. Static and unchanging, until trash starts flowing in from the surface, facilitating a rapid advancement of technology, a decision to have children... and then, y'know. All that nice stuff, leading up to her arrival in Wonderland, where the hallway shifts from the style of the hallway in New Home to one more like the mansion.

...Though, maybe you'll open a door that seems to lead to a suspicious white void, or see a void where it seems like a monster should be in the memory. That probably doesn't mean anything, though. Probably doesn't have anything at all to do with the new golden flower that Toriel has in her room, in that empty pot she's been waiting to put one in for a year now. Certainly didn't trade a memory away for it or anything.

WIRT AND KAYO

[personal profile] singloversing 2017-09-04 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Wirt's mindscape is just the Unknown - an Autumn forest in New England with lots of winding paths. It's very easy to get lost there, and Wirt will probably be wandering around. He is not at all good at lucid dreaming, so he might be a little confused about why other people are suddenly there (aside from Greg or Beatrice) and he'll keep forgetting that it's just a dream. Some of the trees have Bill Cipher triangles carved into them, an old mental scar from that time Bill possessed him.

Kayo's mindscape is very high contrast in three colors - black, white, and red. It's a nighttime scene, and fresh snow is falling. It doesn't seem to be set anywhere in particular, and the black of night is so dark that no one can see what's actually lurking in the shadows. Kayo is there, in her red jacket, making footprints in the snow and letting the cold wind blow through her hair. She isn't a lucid dreamer, but she'll be much easier to convince of what's going on than Wirt will.

Elizabeth and Nora

[personal profile] uncaging 2017-09-04 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Elizabeth has very lucid dreams, which is probably a result of her imagination needing somewhere to go when she was locked in the tower alone for so many years. The tears will feature predominantly in her dreams, leading between Columbia, the mansion, and situations she's faced in events (the Mirror side, Rapture, Alexandria and Hogwarts will definitely all feature). Her insecurities about the nature of her power and the responsibility she has for it will become obvious in her dreams, as will her indecisiveness about whether she wants to stay in Wonderland in the long term.

Nora's dreamscape is the Commonwealth, ranging from the inside of a Vault to the wasteland that Boston has now become. She'll relish the opportunity to take control of her dream and have fun, since she's been going a bit stir crazy recently, but her guilt about being stuck here and unable to look for her son will be obvious too.

JAY

[personal profile] burntvideocassette 2017-09-04 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I am so excited for this event. So excited.

Jay's dreamscape functions like an escape room, where visitors solve puzzles to progress. Expect a heavy emphasis on filmmaking imagery, some unsettling weirdness, and lots and lots of videotapes.

What might be found on those tapes include: college memories (especially those featuring the cast of the student film Marble Hornets and its doomed director Alex Kralie), memories of his investigation, and--worst case scenario--memories of the place he was taken at the moment of death, a place beyond full human comprehension that might or might not be called the Ark.

Like with Tim, visitors to Jay's dreamscape may encounter the Operator. However, the effects of encountering the Operator are, like Zero says, memetic and very hard to get rid of. Please let me know whether you'd like your character to never encounter it, encounter it but not show lingering symptoms, or encounter it with the sort of persistent symptoms Jay and Tim have to deal with.

The contents of Jay's dreamscape can get pretty disturbing. By the end of the series, he's witnessed murders, experienced hallucinations, and developed some majorly unhealthy obsessive thought patterns, to name a few. If you'd like your character to take a visit, please let me know if there are any topics you'd like me to avoid.

So, funny story. The first thing you are going to be greeted with upon traipsing into his mindscape is fire. Unnatural, bright blue fire that seems to be engulfing the mindscape around its outer edges. It won't hurt you if you touch it, but if you stare at it for too long, your thoughts might suddenly start to feel a tad fuzzy...

There are some recognizable things, though. Doors like the other mindscapes, though some of those are locked or... um, on fire too. Or perhaps creepier, with symbols of crossed out eyes and the word "UNSEEN" scratched into the door.

There are a few doors that are thankfully not a disaster. There's one dedicated to his memories of his son Tate which are intact, though for some reason, Tate's mother... doesn't have a voice or face in these memories. Another door leads to a hallway of doors with memories of the summer he spent working with Ford. Sadly a lot of these are on fire or appear to have a damaged door, but there are positive ones of the time spent together at home and in Wonderland.

Speaking of which, his Wonderland memories, should you find the area containing those, are clearer and for the most part intact... save for a few involving specific events, and one of those creepy doors with a crossed out eye symbol carved into it. It's locked so you can't get in, but... how strange that it would be here in this section...

barry and his mindscape will be his living room where his parents were murdered. very much like his experience in the speed force, mom and dad will be very much alive, or be very much dead, depending on what you're most comfortable with. reverse-flash, zoom, or savitar will appear to try and kill nora allen bc she's a bamf.

katherine and her mindscape will be either the woods elijah mikaelson chased her in back in the 1400s or her cottage where she grew up and her parents were slaughtered. in her cottage, her mindscape will be either of her parents' murder or of her daughter playing in the house. (she was forced to give her up when she was 18, so she never got to see that.)

up for having them interact with other people's dreamscapes! i'd love for barry and katherine to walk into the minds of their friends or people they don't know and try and interact with the dream.

Ryuji

[personal profile] nomorules 2017-09-04 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
SPIT BALLING SOME IDEAS HERE BECAUSE HELL YES. *__* Since Ryuji's a P5 character from a canon about mental landscapes, instead of showcasing his entire mindscape (might as well save that for a P5 event down the pipe, shifty eyes) I'm going to stick to primarily dreams/memories for this one.

Some ideas I'm tossing around are:

• A much younger Ryuji still dealing with a household with both parents present, which means a cameo by drunk, abusive dad, eyyyy. (And pre-bleach job Ryuji with his natural black hair, that'll be weird.)

• Ryuji still dealing with Kamoshida and events that led to Kamoshida breaking his leg/tanking his chances with the track team, which means a cameo by abusive coach. HMM, THERE MIGHT BE A THEME HERE.

• Maybe a memory sometime during the healing process? This'd probably be smack dab in the middle of the no good, very bad year we hear about him having before the game starts when he's hulking out with hair dye and teen aggression.

• IDK I'M OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN SOMETHING SPECIFIC???

Because of his experience with Palaces, Ryuji would probably be lucid enough to know what's going on so there's potential for some conscious dream-walking shenanigans! Let me know if you'd like to interact with Ryuji's mindscape, since I'm leaning toward closed threads rather than an open post for maximum overdrive maximum thread organizational purposes.

Likewise, if you'd like Ryuji to be the wanderer and go adventuring in your character's head, we can throw spaghetti at the wall and set something up! I'm good to roll with anything, hit me up.

Asriel Dreemurr (cw: child death)

[personal profile] pleasereset 2017-09-04 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Asriel's mindscape involves a mashup of Asgore's home and the Ruins. There's several rooms to explore, each leading to one of Asriel's memories. These include:

1. The moment of Chara's death
2. The moment of Asriel's death, after being killed by villagers
3. Various Flowey memories, usually involving him harming or killing friends and family, as well as fellow monsters
4. Asriel breaking the barrier

The longer someone explore's Asriel's mindscape, the more "deteriorated" the house will become. It'll start off as warm and welcoming, the sound of pleasant voices and children's laughter. As time passes, the voices and laughter stop and the house becomes darker and colder.

There's one door in Asriel's mindscape that leads to a room built for two children, with two child-sized beds. It has a different atmosphere from anywhere else in Asriel's mindscape, a feeling of tranquility and safety. Unlike the rest of the house, no matter how long a person stays in this room, it will remain as is.

Mae, Rick and Sans

[personal profile] deadshapes 2017-09-05 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
So I'm gonna get in on this event as much as I can because this is BALLER AS FUCK but I'm also leaving that Friday so HNNGG at least I'll get my foot in the door.

Mae will have a mindscape that's literally just this (video link). Mae canonically has really weird dreams that consist of sections or themes about her hometown, where the buildings and such are warped or upside-down and there are four musicians playing in little towers throughout the dream. All the colors are somewhat inverted, there are powerlines everywhere, trains pass by in the background, and the stars are endless. It's trippy and weird and unsettling, but is for the most part not dangerous. Her memories, instead of hiding behind doors, will be illuminated by the assorted street lamps here and there throughout the dream. These memories will consist of events from the game.

There will also be a large patch of pure darkness in the middle of the sky, like a hole.

Rick will have a completely insane mindscape. Rick knows full well how to manipulate the mindscape and how to guard against intruders and mislead would-be Inception enthusiasts. The dream will start in a typical Shoney's, but upon leaving, all hell breaks loose. The mindscape will be a mishmash of pieces of Rick's lab and the assorted worlds he's visited, all twisted together into a Escheresque hellscape that's almost impossible to navigate. If you do manage to wander around without losing your way, you might find free-standing doors here and there with typical mindscape labels like "Childhood Memories" and "Family Memories" and stuff like that, but every single door will be locked and chained. Good luck nerds.

Sans will have a mindscape modeled after his and Papyrus's house. It'll look exactly like their home, with a warm and inviting feel to it, and everything will smell vaguely like spaghetti and ketchup. Sans's memories will be available in the three doors you can enter through in the house. Unlike in reality, the door to Sans's room will be unlocked, and memories will be stashed in a file cabinet. Good luck figuring out the filing system, though, since each drawer will be labeled with nothing but some kind of joke item, like a whoopie cushion or a rubber chicken. The door to Papyrus's room has the memories arranged as books on shelves, and the system is much more straight-forward--also every single memory there has something to do with Papyrus. The door to the basement lab will be there, but will be locked and inaccessible, and standing near it will give people an oppressive, melancholy feeling. There will also be the sense that there's some kind of presence somewhere in the mindscape, though nothing will ever make itself known. Any attempts to find this presence will simply not work.

Sans will also explicitly be avoiding wandering into other people's dreams, so he'll be in his own mindscape the whole time, just sorta hanging out.

Okay, I'm getting a really stupid mental image of Papyrus just...walking into Sans's mindscape just for the sole purpose of heading into the kitchen and making spaghetti, because his mindscape keeps on glitching out between the house and the castle. He's got no idea that he's dreaming or that any of this is weird, he's just concentrating on making dream spaghetti. And then maybe he goes up to his room to get a cookbook, and just gets really confused about why all the books are all about him, not that he's complaining or anything.

And I really want Turing to visit both Mae and Sans's dreams too, if only because they're a glutton for more information!

OH FUCKIN BOY

Alphys' mindscape is her old lab space, which seems innocent enough at first until you open the bathroom and find the elevator to the actual lab. For those who were here back during the True Lab event, characters will notice it's the same lab, except every door to the outside will be locked- and every time you may try to find your bearings in the twisting halls of the lab, you'll just get more and more lost, with the only sound being the heavy shuffle and pant of something you'll probably never see, but is absolutely following...

In the end, Alphys' mind is twisting and convoluted, so uh. Maybe don't get trapped in there. Again, this is the same setting as the True Lab event earlier this year, so if your character was here for that, they may remember some of it!

Shepard, meanwhile, will treat you to the views of a sick ass spaceship, populated by a ton of npcs to keep the dang thing running. Since her squadmates tend to hang out in very specific areas, each room will tend to have memories associated with that person... except for one labelled "Life Support", which will be strangely locked. In addition, if one goes to leave the ship to dock, however, the exit door will enter out into another area entirely, greyed-out and almost entirely quiet past whispers of memories. It's a little hard to contain all of the possibilities for Shepard since she has a metric fuckton of squadmates and game content but hmu and we can figure out what sorta stuff you'd be interested in seeing about her!!!

Regardless, hit me for either of my girls!!! drag out their secrets it'll be gr8

Turing and Papyrus

[personal profile] kingtrousele 2017-09-05 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Turing's mindscape is like going through a supercomputer. There are large pillars everywhere and pretty much everything is high technical. There will be several doors leading to different memories, but they will need a code in order for them to crack open. Fortunately, the codes are relatively easy, since Turing's guard is naturally down because they're sleeping/unconscious. The memories themselves will do with Turing's early life with Hayden and events from the game itself. There will be a couple of concepts floating around in Turing's mind, as well. You might find an art gallery inside their mindscape. You might find a robot that looks strikingly similar to Turing, only except she is entirely pink, inside their mindscape. If you're especially unlucky, you might get pursued by a combat android who is eternally bloodthirsty.

Papyrus's mindscape seems to flicker between his and Sans's house and the castle in New Home. There isn't even a transitional period between the two, it's like they change in the blink of an eye, like a flickering light. Papyrus's mindscape has much more to do with the concepts of a king than his memories since that's been weighing heavily on him. The stress of keeping everyone motivated and the uncertainty of whether or not he wants to stay as a king will be shown in some sort of way no matter which door you go through. He has also found out that in his timeline, all of his friends are dead, so he's still going through the grieving process on this. As such, a door could lead to a little memorial service dedicated to his friends. If you're quick and you're lucky, you might be able to find a secret door when the mindscape flickers onto the castle side...

Morty

[personal profile] onetruemorty 2017-09-05 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Okay so Morty probably isn't going to go very far down the lucidity track. He might be a little better with it by the end of the last day, but for the most part any active manipulation isn't going to be big? I'm always down to plot for that, though, I'm playing it fast and loose! He'd definitely do some wandering throughout the event to see other mindscapes.

He's personally gonna have a mindscape closely modeled on his canon home. Nothing too flashy about it as it stands. You've got your standard doors opening to hallways of memory, and a few portals hanging around. You could probably find a portal like anywhere. They can pop up without warning and lead to storage for any of a full spectrum of memory content. If I do a top-level I'll probably try to detail some labels and stuff! Signs could range from "Dad Memories/Summer Memories/etc" to "Planets With Gravity Just Low Enough To Make A Killing On Moon Shoe Knockoffs, Where We Ruined The Economy Within A Day" bc like. god there could probably be five of those planets.

There's also a semi-fresh grave in the backyard next to the shed, with a shovel propped up next to it. The words "don't think about it" have been engraved on the blade. Welcome to the part of the thrill ride where you can dig six feet to get to a weird horizontal door (or catch an unlucky portal) that drops you into all the Seriously Messed Up Stuff from canon. can i get a uhhhhh healthy coping mechanism for the traumas i've experienced or oh ok that's cool guess i'll literally bury them

shitposting aside, there's actually some legitimately potentially upsetting/messed up stuff in morty's "don't think about it" section (aka repressed and buried for a reason section), all of which i take very seriously. i'd only ever write up things from that section pre-plotted, and there are some doors that will be Just Plain Locked the entire event through.

on the other hand, tons of memories of watching interdimensional cable shows.

Lapis

[personal profile] ssmisery 2017-09-05 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm all for people nosing around in Lapis's mind and memories, since it's gonna be a long effin' time before she opens up to anyone about her baggage on her own.

The setting is a barren, rocky island; the surrounding ocean teems with threatening dark shapes under the water, so the island is still probably preferable. It's not very big, but there are a few minor points of interest among the rocks, and a few pleasant memories to be found. There's also a cave which leads from under the island to under the ocean, where some kind of ruins remains impossibly un-flooded. Much of that is, surprising no one, a vast hall of mirrors, and that's where most of the memories are. With one thing and another, I think it makes sense for her memories to be a bit less interactive but a bit more of an experience.

As for Lapis herself, she's surprisingly hard to find in her own mindscape and doesn't really like being there much. Once she knows what's going on, she might be inclined to avoid wandering into other people's heads... but since she also values her own privacy and doesn't need to sleep, she'll just stay awake after that point. Therefore, encounters with her will be earlier in the event, and she probably won't get very lucid.

The Inu no Taishou

[personal profile] honorabledogfather 2017-09-05 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
AYYYYYY! Let's talk about some sicknasty history from a magical anime place known as...Japan. Wait...???

...Yeah.

So the Inu no Taishou's dreams will consist mainly of important battles that occurred in the past, long before his son Inuyasha was born. And hey, everyone told Inuyasha about it later, so it's legit. His dad was a badass. B)

- The First Dream will be of his battle against Shishinki, a powerful daiyoukai who can do P O R T A L S!!! Actually, the technique is called Meidou Zangetsuha, and it creates a giant spherical "path" to the underworld. It's basically a vacuum to hell. During this battle, he'll be wielding a big-ass sword and trading blows with the other demon in skillful combat, eventually using Tessaiga to absorb the Meidou Zangetsuha ability and use it to disintegrate half of Shishinki's head. Anyone who shows up might be in danger of being sucked into the underworld if they don't move out of the way of the meidous which are being created, but that level of interference would draw Inupapa's attention enough that he'd probably protect whoever got in the way.

- The Second Dream will consist of an aggressive fight against his eldest son, Sesshoumaru. The two will be "sparring," but Sesshoumaru is known for his cutthroat nature, and while his father will soundly (but non-lethally) trounce him over time, it'll definitely look like a death battle. Intruders are free to interfere, but might not want to interrupt. Sesshoumaru's not into weaklings intruding on his affairs.

- The Final Dream is going to be the end of his battle with Ryukotsusei, a dragon daiyoukai that the Taishou sealed to a mountainside with one of his massive fangs. It's going to be in this battle that the Taishou will be in his most massive transformed state, a giant demonic dog that nearly dwarfs Ryukotsusei with sheer bulk, if not body length. The conclusion of this battle is, of course, his death. He dies from the wounds inflicted, and nothing that any other characters do will prevent this, but why not try? It'll be interesting!

The general appearance of the dreams will be vibrant, though perhaps not sharply defined. The natural landscapes are richly colored, and the enemies are much more defined than the rest of the surroundings.

Legion's landscape will look like the inside of the Geth server, an fractal city of silvery metal and shining expanses that seem to stretch on forever in every direction. They're very aware of what is going on, and will initially be attempting to proceed with scheduled software maintenance, though this won't last long. They're not particularly private, one might even find their minscape almost... eager to lead them to some memories.

[personal profile] shrinkage 2017-09-05 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
ray's mindscape will be abstract, disjointed, and possibly a little confusing. he's in a PLACE right now after losing a few cast mates and his exo-suit. so while he still tries to put on a cheerful and positive front in the waking world, there's a chance his mindscape and memories and dreams will be less upbeat. if anyone wants a glimpse at the "darker" side of ray, this'll probably be a rare chance for it!

claudia's will feel a bit like wonderland itself-- it'll be set at the warehouse, with sprawling aisles and shelves that stretch on and upward for what feels like forever. anyone looking to see magical items from her world, or learn more about why she's so prickly, or maybe just want to explore randomly with her, hit me up!
→ give a shout if you'd like threads, but also feel free to hit me up if you'd just like to chat out mindscape details so we can focus on post-event fallout if that would be more interesting for you!

I'd be down for Wynonna maybe seeing some of Ray's darker side, if you're up for it. We could even just has it out and do the aftermath because Wynonna absolutely would tell him whatever she saw, considering he was pretty upfront about what Doc's mirror told him -- that kind of loyalty is usually rewarded by Wynonna, and the whole violation element of this event isn't going to sit well with her.

Kiyotaka Ishimaru (Dangan Ronpa 1 spoilers!)

[personal profile] moraloutrage 2017-09-05 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Ishimaru's mindscape will naturally resemble a school - a combination of his original high school and Hope's Peak Academy. Most of it will be in black-and-white, with the exception being that some areas associated with the murders of the killing game will be in full color.

By exploring the different areas, characters will be able to come across Ishimaru's memories, including the story of his grandfather, his general school life, his life trapped in Hope's Peak, his sauna duel with Mondo Oowada, possibly his free time events with Makoto Naegi, and his perspective of the first two murders and class trials of the game as well as the first execution. There will also be memories of some of his Wonderland experiences, especially the arrival of Mondo. Additionally, I'm thinking that there will be a hidden area somewhere that can only be accessed by force, which will contain the remnants of the memories that were erased from him as part of DR1's backstory. That area will be like wandering into a glitchy off-map area of a video game, and characters will only be able to view fragments of memories.

Ishimaru's avatar will also openly appear as a host of his mindscape, and I'm thinking that Ishimaru's mental version of Monokuma will also appear in the Hope's Peak section of the mindscape.

Evelyn O'Connell

[personal profile] nascensibility 2017-09-05 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Evelyn's mindscape will strongly resemble her family home in England, a sprawling estate with manicured grounds and picture-perfect landscaping. Unlike the outside, the interior of the building is a discombobulated mess of halls, staircases, doors, libraries, and cabinets stuffed with various curios and historic artefacts.

Some of the memories you might find behind closed doors include the following:

- Growing pains-style reflections of childhood and adolescence: spending time in the study with her father while he works diligently, watching her mother arrange a prayer mat in a stately bedroom as she addresses her daughter in Arabic, parlours full of sick beds and wounded soldiers convalescing while a little girl runs between them telling them stories, summers on the Nile River, rough-housing and loud, well-intentioned academic arguments with her older brother, two siblings in black holding hands and watching a funeral procession with two caskets.

- A very reluctant débutante presentation at court before His Majesty. Frequent attendee of women's rights rallies. Scourge of the Somerville College debate team, class of 1925. There may also be some mild mooning over a young Classical anthropology instructor named Professor Winter but you can't prove anything!!!

- The events that led up to her marriage, which includes everything related to accidental necromancy, the resurrecting of ancient destructive curses, Biblical plagues, flesh-eating beetles, horrifying sandstorms, ritual sacrifice and rooms stuffed with gold.

- An entire wing dedicated to familial content: married life with her husband, the birth and raising of their child, an adventurous twosome abroad doing work and looking after a toddler at the same time. Mom Stuff (TM) like Evelyn encouraging her precocious son to follow his interests, language lessons in Latin, Greek, and ancient Egyptian.

- Wonderland memories, categorised neatly in (appropriately) the library of the manor. Accessible by selecting file folders after unlocking drawers. All happy memories are easy to rifle through! All drawers can be opened, but some - those labeled with the names of Philip LaFresque, Will Graham, Hannibal Lecter, Sherlock Holmes, and Mark Meltzer - have puzzle-locks set on them and cannot be opened unless they are solved.

Evelyn misses home and would probably wander pretty freely around the house. I'm also down with a million other permutations if people wanna get in on that, but this is the most Basic. If you have an interest in accessing some of those locked files, let me know and we can work something out! :D

[personal profile] ghflskhu_ph 2017-09-05 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hohhh boy, so fun fact! Bill was originally written for the Dreamscaperers episode and this episode alone before becoming a more extensive piece of the GF canon- meaning this place is his FORTE.

Bill won't have a Mindscape of his own, but expect to see the flash of gold flitting around every which way and generally snooping about in whatever area he get into in YOURS.

He isn't much too pleased with the idea that SOMEONE made this happen by attempting to limit his reach, so he'll be looking to cause some havoc.

I won't muck things up too badly without your consent, buuuut if you set things up for me to knock down, don't say I didn't warn ya~

If you need to headcanon him ripping open some doors to your memories and letting em lose or any other mischief, let me know, I'll gladly accommodate >D

Also if he doesn't want you to know he's there, Bill can easily shapeshift into a form from one of your memories, if you'd like some lowkey hangout time without the fuss of debating whether or not your muse actually wants to risk speaking to him. (And I am absolutely not adverse to you figuring him out, even if it's after the thread finishes.)

He is fully powered in this domain, he can read your mind and manifest your greatest fears with the snap of his fingers so it's wise not to cross him, he can be convinced to behave, if you offer another way to keep him entertained, however.

[personal profile] trabryu 2017-09-05 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Upon your visit to Mondo's dreamscape, you'll find yourself navigating through a night alley in Japan (video ref / image ref). This was where his gang used to hang around at night, so you might smell nicotine and exhaust gases. It'll alter between B&W and in colour, but sometimes it'll glitch and make them partially both. As you go further down the alley, you'll find some shops you can enter, but instead of shops you'll see pieces of his memories. You can see a normal shop if it is part of his memory, but most of the times, you'll find yourself somewhere else. It can lead to another road in which you see a bunch of motorcycle hooligans loudly honking in the middle of night, laughing boisterously and enjoying themselves.

There are a bunch of mixture between good and bad memories, but they're hardly surreal. If anything, due to his realist nature, his dreams tend to be pretty straightforward, and so will his dreamscape be. You might also encounter events/his memories from Wonderland, too! Short as his stay has been so far, there are enough things that are stimulating enough to remain within the deepest of his mind. Feel free to let me know if you'd like opt out from spoilery stuff!

<----DANGAN RONPA 1 SPOILERS FROM HERE ON---->

The shops can also lead to a classroom, where there are a bunch of quirky students seemingly getting along well with each other (erased memory that he himself doesn't remember atm, so he'll be very puzzled upon seeing it). But also, sometimes it leads to a murder scene. Depending on which, you might even witness him murdering someone. I'm down to revealing any parts of his memory, so this includes the death of his brother Daiya, the death of his beloved dog Chuck, class trials... everything that he's seen.

choosetruth: (the kind that turns a lady's head)

Georgia, Kon, Dipper

[personal profile] choosetruth 2017-09-05 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Georgia's mind looks like her news van in greyscale. Which is to say cramped, and packed with equipment. The difference between her mindscape van and the actual van is that while it's very cramped, it's actually not that small. It's just that it always feels extremely full. Everywhere you turn there is more to see even after you've turned enough that you should be where you started. If you look outside the windows or go through the doors you'll find yourself in an endless, oppressing whiteness that's somehow intimidating in its blankness. This is partly because of her CDC nightmares and partly because her mind is actually extremely new. Maybe someday her mindscape will fill in with more outside the safe haven of her news van, but it hasn't yet.

Her memories show on screens throughout the van, neatly organized by year and cross-referenced by topic and person involved. There are, of course, a lot of memories of Shaun, both from when they were very young and more recently, during their career as the blog team for Senator Ryman. The common denominator is that they're always taking care of each other and sticking with each other. There are also some memories of her parents. Her memories of her father vary from vaguely positive which is mostly them talking about the news or scholarly topics to negative during those moments when she can see how much of it is an act. There's definitely a memory of her playing chess with him and losing extremely badly and intentionally to prove a point. The memories of her mother are almost entirely negative, either moments in public where her mother is openly affectionate in an all-too-showy way or in private when she'll barely look at Georgia except to criticize. There's also a memory of her death, getting hit with the needle and then typing up her final article while Shaun waits with a gun pressed to her skull.

It's worth noting that all of these memories are sort of grainy and soft around the edges, like a tape that's been copied over too many times. That's because they are copies from the original Georgia. The clearest memories are the ones that take place in the CDC, of her waking up in white pajamas in a white room on a white cot and all the experiments they ran on her and ways they fucked with her. Those are all all too sharp and clear.

Kon has a pretty jumbled mindscape, with flora ranging from palm trees and tropical flowers to fields of corn and wheat, all mixed together despite the fact that the ground is clearly a lab-safe tile. There's an entry to a cave that looks a lot like the Justice cave and in those caves are doors that lead to his memories. There are surprisingly few for how old he looks since he's really just... three or four or something. There's a memory of him first escaping Cadmus with the Newsboy Legion when he called himself Superman and got his first leather jacket. There's a memory of Knockout and finding out she'd killed a cop and was using him. There are a lot of memories of him fighting crime with his friends or alone, including definitely a memory of King Shark because he's a shark and that's amazing. There's a memory of Superman giving him the name Kon-El when he was 2, and up until then he is only called "Superboy" or "the Kid." There are other memories of Superman, but not many of them actually bonding. Then there's a memory of learning Lex Luthor is where his human DNA comes from.

Dipper is the one with actual mindscape experience and he'll realize where he is pretty fast. His mindscape looks a lot like Stan's, since it's also the Mystery Shack, but his is a little more colorful and a little more friendly looking. It's just as weird and twisty, but it's the place where he feels safest and most at home and that shows. His memories show through doors. There are some from before Gravity Falls, where he's people are laughing at him for believing in ghosts and stuff or for being weird or for so many other things. There are a lot of memories of playing with Mabel and doing other things with her. His Gravity Falls memories, are, of course, more interesting. Memories of him finding the journal, various memories of basically any other episode, and especially horrible memories of Bill, Sock Opera, and Weirdmageddon. There's a very fond memory of his 13th birthday and various times with the Pines family (including Soos and Wendy).

Also he's a baby teenager so like. If there's a door that says do not open DO NOT OPEN IT. Just saying.

Dipper and Georgia will definitely figure out that something weird's going on, and even Kon might be suspicious. They'll definitely wander through other people's heads. I can also totally write up custom memory prompts if you want to take this opportunity to reveal something about one of my characters. All of them are pretty open except about the stuff they Do Not Want to talk about.
